Comment: Your sacrifice has never been forgotten. I was merely 7 when it happened to you, but my parents always reminded me, and I have never forgotten you.

Though the current administration is sharping 'her' claws for another take over perhaps? We are watching. They wouldnt get away. But I am also not after her rivals fighting for her position to get their 'share' of the pie. I still believe there is hope for a country, to be ruled one day by a good and honest leader who can take charge and command all those beneath him / her.

SOme people never learn, and some people knew from the beginning...

I am proud to call myself Filipino. For your wisdom and wit, I wish your daughter Kris made better decisions, specially in men. Now, at least she's 'hopefully' in a better place. I pray that they treat each other right

: His life and his principles
Comment: He awakened the Filipino spirit. Ninoy knew that oppressive dictatorship was not the cure to the ills of the society during that dark time. Both Ninoy and Marcos knew that Democracy was being exploited and abused then and Ninoy had a plan to repair it if ever he becomes president. Ninoy had the perfect plan. But, he never had the chance. Democracy would have grown the right way through Ninoy. He had the unequaled passion for the Filipinos next only to Rizal. At least his life, ideals and death woke the Filipino nation's thirst for true Democracy. As what the Hon. Jovito Salonga said, "The Greatest President we never had."

Ninoy, thank you for awakening the patriotism of the Filipinos, thank you for laying your life for us, your fellowmen, proudly saying that,"the Filipino is worth dying for", thank you for being a champion of true Democracy and true leadership. You will forever be enshrined in the very hearts of the Filipino people, a true inspiration for generations yet to come.

May the Philippines have more Ninoys and Rizals to come.

Many of us Cano

What do you consider ninoy's most important contribution?
Ninoy Aquino means so many things to me, I don't know where to begin. As a literate Cano ('puti'), freedom from  opression comes to mind whenever I pray to the memory of the Phillipino martyrs, and for those who faught shoulder-to-shoulder with us against the occupiers, and who are waiting for their just recognition and compensation.

May the spirit of The Republic Ng Phillipines never be forgotten, but grow and prosper and be like a lighthouse for all the World's people who are still waiting, and dying for freedom.

Comment: I was about 6 years old when Ninoy died.It was an unforgettable day because of two important reasons.First, my baby sister was born in the early morning of August 21,1983.And...Ninoy died later in the afternoon. At this very young age,I have somewhat vague idea about what was happening in the country courtesy of my father.I happened to assessed my father's apprehension on the regime.I have known my father to be a patient and a law abiding citizen.I should know because he always emphasized these traits. However, when he speaks of how the government was running the country during those times, you could feel in his voice the growing aura of discontent and disappointment.I owe to my father my nationalistic view. And I consider it to be one of his greatest impact on my being. And part of that nationalistic view is how to be like Ninoy in aspirations and in deeds.

: Ninoy Aquino's legacy is his life. He showed to us all that Mr. marcos' might, money and military harassment are no match to his willingness to stand up and suffer for his principle; his life was glorious, marked by greatness from the very beginning; his death on the tarmac was majestic and heroic; clearly a hero for the modern times.

: His life
CommentNinoy was a great man. He loved his country and its people. He sacrificed a lot; to the extent of giving up his own life for freddom. In dying, he has opened the door of democracy. This open door, however, does not discriminate anyone from entering. This means that even people with evil deeds and thoughts can and will go through and take advantage of our young democracy. Ninoy has done his part. It is now our turn to do our part to prove that we are worth his life; and hence, having entered the door of democracy. There are a number of options though. We can keep the door of democracy open for everyone and care less; we can safeguard this democracy ensuring that no single person will take advantage and endanger its existence; or we can just close door and let another tyrant enslave everyone else. As always, it is our choice...

CommentMy eldest daughter was 5 yrs old and my son was then 3 yrs old when Ninoy was assassinated. They barely do not have the idea who was Ninoy, the What and Why he was killed. They often got interestingly fascinated when i told them we had a tape recorded speech of him in boston during his exile in the U.S., a very powerful and dynamic speech that i replayed several times over but now gone because it was destroyed by typhoon Nitang in 1984. Their burning interest awakened when we saw in the t.v. during his death anniversary, his famous boston speech which a mere minute part of it was flushed. I wondered then how could we obtain again an audio or this time video cd until i come across this website. Sir/Madam, please send me one. My address is, 10825 Mana Pepang Vill., Brgy. Rizal, 8400 Surigao City.

Comment: great site all in all. just a little constructive criticism. it could use some editing. (e.g., webmaster's note really needs a proofreading ). details in the bibliography should be double-checked (e.g., Ninoy started his political career as the Mayor of Concepcion, Tarlac at the eage of 21. He was 18 when he went to Korea, and umm...Korean war, wasn't that in the 1950's? If he was there in 1945 that would make him 13 when he went there if he was born in 1932). I am not an expert on Ninoy trivia but the facts are just inconsistent. Hope you can improve the site honoring a really great man.
Thanks

CommentI was barely in school when Ninoy died. Back then the only political figure I know was former president Marcos. My mother worshipped her. I thought he was a good man. Until I heard about this man who was shot at the tarmac of then MIA. I remember my mother crying as she watched the news on TV. I asked her who the man was. She didn't answer. She was focused on the TV. I didn't get to know the man until the days when almost all the people in the land gathered at EDSA praying for Marcos to step down. And amids all the things they were fighting for was a name. The name of the great man killed on August 21, 1983. The name was NINOY. And i remember the face that adorned the giant streamers the people were waving like it was the new flag of our nation. And vividly the face flashed back scenes I saw on TV three years before. He was their source of hope. To think he's already dead. And so as they say, the rest was history. And I still didn't k! now the man. But when got older, I became aware of what's happening in our society. The corruption of people who ought to protect us, the poor gets poorer, the rich accumulates endlessly. I want to do something, to make things right. I want to gather all the demons that persecute us and raze them for good. I wanted to be NINOY. But I know I can't. But I believe, for our nation to be great again, there must a be a NINOY inside of us. I still value his greatness. It happened long ago. But the flame is still burning. It showed me the light. And I want to tell everyone, that as long as that flame is burning, we still have hope. It's not too late.

Since there is still a huge following for our martyred hero, I suggest that a club or organization be formed/established which will help in spreading and educating the people about the ideals and heroism of Ninoy Aquino..Tie-ups with the Benigno Aquino Foundation or the People Power Movement can likewise be explored..

Commentit's just too bad the Filipino people cannot comprehend the need for a fair and honest government, a government that governs the people, and do things for the people. anyone that runs for political office that spends millions of pesos during his campaign should not be voted, only for the simple reason that he would recoup his expenses when he gets elected. it is time to rise up and show the world how we can be proud to be Filipinos again (like in '86)

CommentIm about to write a research paper about ninoy and the martial law. but it was just an accident. I first decided to write something about bonifacio, but articles about ninoy really captured my attention. I was in the library here at UP this afternoon, and chose to write something for him as a tribute to a true statesman of this nation. Anyway, the research paper is actually a project in my Philippine Institution class, PI 100. hope the present youth would follow the path he has taken
